Longtime Club Member
Hank DuBois passes away
Announcement from Hank's son Bill:
Hello Gentlemen. I'm Hank's oldest son, Bill.  My Dad, (Hank DuBois) passed away yesterday (2/15/2009).  He passed peacefully after a brief illness.  He was 86 years old.  As some of you may remember, he was very active in FSFA in the 70's and 80's, and proudly hangs a Grand Master Angler plaque on the wall of his Cocoa Beach home.  It took 13 years for him to go from Master Angler to Grand Master...and he always credited his fishing buddies for giving him tremendous help and encouragement.  My younger brother, Mike, recently moved to Merritt Island.  He inherited my Dad's fishing gene, and is fixing up Dad's old 13' Whaler...so expect him on local waters next month when the good fishing starts.  If you could pass this sad news onto the FSFA gang, I'd appreciate it.

Longtime Club Member
John Ondercin passes away
Longtime FSFA member John Ondercin passed away, Wednesday, January 14. He was ninety-three years old. He and his wife, Ruth (deceased) were long time club members. They may have even been charter members of the FSFA, but we would need one of the founding members to verify that. At least we know that they were very active in the club from its early years until the mid-'90's. John held several positions on the board of directors, including serving as vice president. John and Ruth were especially interested in our youth activities. I remember that one occasion we held a day-long fishing clinic for students of the Jefferson Jr. High Conservation Club. as lunch time approached, John and Ruth went to McDonalds and bought lunch for all students and instructors who were participating in the activity. That was for close to 50 people.

In the last few years, health problems prevented John from regularly attending club activities, but his heart was still with us, and he managed to attend the awards ceremonies and summer picnics until the last few years. Occasionally at those events, we were privileged to have John lead us in a prayer of thanksgiving before the meal was served.

Services for John will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 20, at Florida Memorial Gardens funeral home. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 8:00 PM at the same location.

(Our appreciation to member Hank Griggs for this announcement)

Port Canaveral Security Issue and Link to FDLE
At last night's FSFA meeting, Bob Barfield of the CCCA spoke to us about the threat of increased security levels at Port Canaveral.  As a deepwater port, there is a very real chance that lawmakers could close the port entirely to the public in the name of security. Make sure your voice is heard. We have added a link to the FDLE Port Security website. Please check it out and use their "contact us" button to register your voice on this issue.

We'll try to keep you posted on this subject.
