Involved in our Community

I have enjoyed working in our community supporting the Merritt Island High School Athletics, Food Drops, Church and various community events. My husband and I have been members since 2010 and have met new friends and fishing buddies. Last year on the BOD, I supported and volunteered for all events, particularly being the Chairperson for the Annual 2018 FSFA Auction.

Since the mid-1990s’ each year in June, in cooperation with the FWC, we host a free Kid’s Fishing Clinic. Over 6,000 children and their families have been introduced to fishing, boating safety, responsibility and respect for our marine environment.

The FSFA was instrumental in 2005 with the permitting and construction of the Canaveral Port Authority Site #23 reef and along with other various reef projects over the past 14 years. Most recently our club has partnered with CFOA, CCA and Brevard County Waterways to deploy 4 additional artificial reefs since 2015. Including, this year’s reef project the - Cary Kresge Pyramids deployed 15 miles east of Port Canaveral. This represents the FSFA members and contributions at work, and in addition to the support of Chris Pashos- Director and Space Coast Artificial Reef Advisory Board (SCARAB).

The club maintains a presence at all public hearings and summits regarding artificial reefs off the shores of Brevard County. You might say that the FSFA has made its mark both on land and below the waves.

We are actively involved in our community including; THE KID’S FISHING CLINIC (in coordination with FWC, Canaveral Port Authority and Fish Florida), BREVARD EDUCATION FOUNDATION, BOY SCOUTS, BREVARD ZOO, CITIZENS FOR FLORIDA WATERWAYS, CCA, IGFA, THE DOLPHIN RESEARCH CENTER (tagging program), Indialantic Volunteer Fire Department, Kiwanis Island Parks and Recreation, Brevard Veterans Memorial and the Port Canaveral Fire Department.

This is made possible by the involvement of our club members thus, funding made possible by the FSFA events during the year and with your participation.
